Singapore’s push to develop trusted, contextually relevant AI foundation models for national needs took another step forward with a recent workshop focused on the healthcare domain, under the new SIMFONI programme — the Singapore Initiative for Multimodal Foundation Models and National Infrastructure.
Held on 21 June 2025, the half-day session brought together nearly 60 participants from across the ecosystem, including representatives from Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) research institutes, healthcare organisations, polyclinics, and AI Singapore. Supported by NSCC Singapore through compute infrastructure, the workshop provided a platform for participants to share their capabilities, use cases, challenges, and successes in applying AI and foundation models in healthcare settings.
The session also focused on exploring collaboration opportunities and team formation to address areas such as clinical decision support tools, patient adherence, and LLM-based coaching — all part of Singapore’s broader aim to develop and deploy AI tools that can improve health outcomes, lower costs, and create value for the economy.
Outputs from this and future workshops will help shape a national roadmap for how foundation models can be safely and effectively deployed for healthcare, while aligning infrastructure, strategy, and funding around shared goals.
