This month, the National Supercomputing Centre (NSCC) Singapore welcomed Dr Zhang Jiehuang and students from the Bachelor of Computing (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence & Society (AISC) programme at Nanyang Technological University’s College of Computing and Data Science (CCDS) for a visit to the ASPIRE 2B Data Centre.
The visit offered students a firsthand look at how national supercomputing infrastructure powers advanced AI and high –performance computing (HPC) research.

Bridging academic learning with real-world applications, Kim Seung Hyun, an intern with NSCC’s Frontier Team, shared his experience working on Project Darwin. As part of the project, he contributes to the development of NSCC’s Agentic AI initiative, which involves building a foundational environment that enables researchers to seamlessly and securely transition their manual, iterative processes into AI-assisted workflows.

A major highlight of the visit was a guided tour of the ASPIRE 2B Data Centre. Students gained an up-close view of Singapore’s newest and most powerful national supercomputer, including its system architecture, advanced cooling technologies and infrastructure designed to support complex AI and HPC workloads.
The session concluded with an informative Q&A session where students received meaningful insights into the industry and opportunities in the field.
The visit brought HPC and AI beyond the classroom, giving students a closer look at how these technologies are shaping research and innovation in Singapore.
