Empowering Our Users: A Look Back at April’s High Performance Computing Workshops

At NSCC, we go beyond the provision of supercomputing infrastructure and ensure that our users have the knowledge, tools and confidence to push the boundaries of their research. 

In April, NSCC hosted two dedicated workshops focused on driving more efficient and scalable use of the ASPIRE 2A and ASPIRE 2A+ systems, equipping researchers with the advanced programming models and practical techniques to accelerate their computational workloads.

Our ASPIRE 2A Advanced Workshop on Job Management guided users through array jobs, job dependencies, file stage-in and stage-out, and troubleshooting job submission issues. Participants were also introduced to the Altair Access Job and Visualisation Portals, enabling more streamlined monitoring and improved job scaling and resource utilisation. 

Following this, our ASPIRE 2A+ Advanced Workshop on Parallel Programming Models equipped users with the foundational knowledge of container-based parallel computing environments and libraries in ASPIRE 2A+. The session covered parallelisation frameworks of PyTorch and their applications to AI workloads, including  end-to-end deep learning pipelines and transformer-based models, alongside an introduction to large language models (LLMs).
