NSCC and NVIDIA Empower Local Talent: Profiling AI Software and HPC Profiling Bootcamp

National supercomputing infrastructure provides the compute power needed to support increasingly advanced AI and scientific research. However, unlocking the full potential of these systems also requires researchers to develop the skills needed to optimise applications and effectively leverage modern HPC architectures. 

To support this, NSCC partnered with NVIDIA to deliver two specialised training programmes: the NSCC Profiling AI Software Bootcamp and the NSCC HPC Profiling Bootcamp. 

The in-person NSCC Profiling AI Software Bootcamp focused on helping users optimise their GPU resources and understand complex multi-node GPU architecture. Participants learned performance profiling techniques with NVIDIA Nsight Systems, studied the fundamentals of distributed training, analysed multi-GPU and multi-node system topologies, and explored the Transformer Engine. Participants also gained experienced hands-on application on a GPU cluster under the guidance of experts from NSCC and NVIDIA.

Complementing this, the virtual NSCC HPC Profiling Bootcamp equipped participants with the skills to master the architectural complexities of working within NSCC’s HPC environment. The programme covered the processes and tools for efficient GPU utilisation, application profiling, Compute, and NVTX APIs, while learning how to identify performance bottlenecks, improve GPU utilisation and apply optimisation techniques to enhance workload efficiency at scale. 

Through such industry partnerships, NSCC remains committed to empowering our HPC community and equipping researchers with the skills needed to make the most of advanced computing resources.
