At NSCC Singapore, empowering users to harness the full potential of high performance computing (HPC) remains at the heart of our mission. Alongside our introductory training sessions that help new users get started on the ASPIRE systems, our advanced workshops are designed to support more experienced users in deepening their technical proficiency and maximising computational performance.
This month, two advanced workshops on strengthening users’ ability to optimise performance and scale applications effectively on NSCC Singapore’s ASPIRE systems were held. The ASPIRE 2A Advanced Workshop on Job Management was focused on array jobs, job dependencies, file stage-in/out and troubleshooting job submission issues and other core skills that enable users to efficiently manage workloads on ASPIRE 2A.
Complementing this is the ASPIRE 2A+ Advanced Workshop on Profiling and Debugging, which explored tools and techniques for identifying performance bottlenecks in workloads. Through hands-on exercises, participants learned to use NVIDIA Nsight Systems to visualise CPU, GPU, memory transfers, and MPI performance, and applied NVTX annotations in both compiled languages and Python. The session also explored PyTorch-specific profiling methods for analysing deep learning module performance, and concluded with an introduction to debugging tools such as GDB, CUDA-GDB, and PDB—key skills that equip users to diagnose, refine, and optimise applications on ASPIRE 2A+.
Together, these workshops exemplify NSCC Singapore’s ongoing commitment to cultivating a strong, self-sustaining HPC ecosystem — one that supports users across disciplines, expertise levels, and research domains. By empowering researchers, engineers and developers to optimise and innovate through computation, NSCC continues to play a vital role in advancing Singapore’s capabilities in scientific discovery, innovation, and digital transformation.
