Data Centre Visits: Supporting Research, Talent and Collaboration

This month, NSCC Singapore hosted a series of data centre visits, welcoming research leaders, students, international partners, and industry stakeholders for in-depth engagements around Singapore’s national high performance computing (HPC) infrastructure. These visits provided participants with a closer look at the ASPIRE 2A and ASPIRE 2A+ supercomputing systems, as well as the operational and sustainability considerations behind running large-scale HPC systems in a tropical environment.

We welcomed the NRF Academic Research Directorates for a focused session on our mission and ongoing initiatives to support the research community through national HPC resources. The programme featured an overview of the infrastructure powering ASPIRE 2A and ASPIRE 2A+, alongside discussions on how the national HPC infrastructure is being scaled to meet evolving research needs. The session concluded with a guided walkthrough of the data centre, offering insight into the technologies underpinning our national supercomputers.

NSCC Singapore also hosted a student delegation from the NUS School of Computing, led by Dr Cristina Carbunaru. Beyond an introduction to Singapore’s national supercomputing systems, students heard from former NSCC Singapore intern Tim Zhang Danxu, now a full-time Systems Engineer, who shared his journey from academia into an HPC engineering role. The visit closed with a guided tour, giving students a first-hand view of how national-scale systems support research and innovation.

Finnish Delegation

Jointly organised with the Embassy of Finland, NSCC Singapore received representatives from Finland’s governmental agencies and research ecosystem, including our long-standing partner CSC – IT Center for Science, for an exchange on national HPC strategies. The engagement enabled an exchange of insights on initiatives supporting their respective HPC communities, as well as discussions on advancing operational excellence in supercomputing systems, including differing approaches to sustainable cooling.

SingHealth Delegation
