Alliance of Supercomputing Centres (ASC)

The Alliance of Supercomputing Centres (ASC) is a collaborative global network of leading high-performance computing (HPC) organisations committed to advancing research, innovation, and talent development. Formed to strengthen collaboration across borders, ASC connects HPC centres to share best practices, co-develop initiatives, and support scientific communities in addressing some of the world’s most complex challenges.

Who We Are

ASC brings together HPC centre partners across Asia, Europe, and beyond. Each centre is a national or regional leader in supercomputing, driving breakthroughs in domains such as AI, climate science, materials research, life sciences, and advanced engineering and more.

Together, these centres represent a shared commitment to:

  • Accelerating scientific discovery through shared knowledge and resources

  • Building expertise and talent pipelines across regions

  • Promoting an inclusive and collaborative global HPC ecosystem

Why It Matters

High-performance computing is no longer a national endeavour alone. By working together, ASC members amplify their strengths, enabling both smaller nations and large centres to contribute to a global HPC ecosystem that is inclusive, sustainable, and impactful.

Benefits of ASC

ASC focuses on the following main areas:

Knowledge sharing
Benchmarking studies, operations best practices, and governance models
Collaborative innovation
Joint projects in HPC, AI, quantum, and data-driven science
Community building
Strengthening connections across member centres and fostering new partnerships

Regular Meetings & Forums

ASC convenes three times a year, usually alongside major supercomputing conferences such as SupercomputingAsia (SCA), the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC), and the Supercomputing Conference (SC). These sessions provide a platform for members to exchange insights, coordinate initiatives, and engage with the global HPC community.

In addition, ASC hosts the HPC Centre Leaders Forum at SCA, where leaders share strategic directions, national perspectives, and future plans.

Special Interest Groups

ASC supports Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that dive deeper into emerging areas of importance. For example, the Quantum-HPC SIG, led by Dr. Venkatesh Kannan (ICHEC, Ireland), hosted a workshop on integrating quantum and HPC at SCA2025. The session gathered researchers and practitioners to explore early deployments, hybrid computing use cases, and opportunities for international collaboration. With strong community interest, the SIG will continue to facilitate dialogue and knowledge-sharing in this fast-evolving field.
