The NSCC was established in 2015 and manages Singapore’s first national petascale supercomputing facility. In December last year, we officially launched the national Advanced Supercomputer for Petascale Innovation Research and Enterprise or ASPIRE 1 in short.
This is only the first in a series of supercomputers for Singapore that will provide the foundation of Singapore’s push to compete in the digital economy. NSCC will lay the computational infrastructure foundation for our nation to support our universities, research institutes and industry in this global, highly competitive landscape of Big Data, Artificial Intelligence or AI, Deep Learning, Advanced Manufacturing, Precision Medicine and much more.
Our supercomputer is already almost fully utilised and NSCC has already launched in the next phase. NSCC’s vision is to democratise access to supercomputing and play a catalytic role in supporting national research and development initiatives, attracting industrial research collaborations and enhancing Singapore’s research capabilities.
I would like to thank NSCC’s founding stakeholders, Agency for Science Technology and Research (A*STAR), National University Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) for their strong support since the beginning. Together, NSCC can facilitate a generation of scientists and technologists to think computationally parallel and to catalyse the growth of a balanced HPC ecosystem in Singapore.
